Hi,

thank you.

I aplogize my bad french again.

When I add an 'Item' or 'Tag', I can only use short descriptions and notes. If I use only some words, they will be saved. If I edit the description again and add more text or a picture, the addings won't be saved. If I use a long text at the first time, nothing will be saved, not even the 'Name'.

You can use this posting for testing. It is to long. If you copy this to the field 'Description' and give the 'Item' or 'Tag' a 'Name', nothing will be saved. It makes no different, if you say 'OK' or 'Add' at the first time.

My English is as good as your French, but I understand better when you write in English. I tried what you describe:
- Open an object editor
- Copy / paste of your message in the Description field
- Click OK
The result is correct, the information has been registered. Same effect with the Notes field.

I can not reproduce this bug. What is your version of oStorybook?

Hello,

I tried it with Ubuntu 14.04 on a desktop computer, a laptop and in a virtual machine. It is always the same.

So I did this some minutes ago: I deleted the folder with oStorybook in it. I deleted the folder .storybook5. I downloaded the zipped 4.10.1 from this website (I had the same problem with 4.10; the versions before, I didn't use items or tags, so I don't know). Extracted the zip to a folder and started with 'java -jar oStorybook.jar'. I didn't change anything, I used all defaults. Then I created a new file. There I only added an item with a small text. It worked. When I add more text, or add a new item with long text, nothing happens. But I see an error message in command line. It is:
-----
*** : AbstractController.setModelProperty()
msg=org.hibernate.exception.DataException: Could not execute JDBC batch update
method:setUpdateItem
classes:class [Ljava.lang.Class;
-----
java -version gives:
-----
java version "1.8.0_60"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_60-b27)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.60-b23, mixed mode)
-----

As far, as I can see, this only happens with items or tags. With scenes, characters, locations or ideas, everything works like expected.

And one thing: it is not the interface languague. I tried it with german, english and french.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

Anton, thank you, I am glad that you know properly handle your system. We could test more information, run oStorybook with the following options:

java -jar oStorybook.jar --trace --hibernate > log.txt

In the log.txt we will get all traces during execution. Run the problematic function. Exit and then send me the file in a private message (the file could be quite large) at this adress: ostorybook@tuxfamily.org .

Hi,

how can I send you a private message? I'm to blind to find the button. ;)

In the logfile I found this:

Code :
09-13 20:09:06 jdbc[2]:
/**/prep142.executeBatch();
09-13 20:09:06 jdbc[2]: exception
org.h2.jdbc.JdbcSQLException: Value too long for column "DESCRIPTION VARCHAR(255)": "STRINGDECODE('<p>\n This is a very long text. This is a very long text. This is a very long \n text. This is a very lo... (760)"; SQL statement:
insert into TAG (category, name, description, notes, type, ID) values (?, ?, ?, ?, 1, ?) [22001-159]
at org.h2.message.DbException.getJdbcSQLException(DbException.java:329)
at org.h2.message.DbException.get(DbException.java:169)
at org.h2.table.Column.validateConvertUpdateSequence(Column.java:319)

The 'Value too long for column' seems to be the error.

For notes (and others) the table create is:

Code :
09-13 20:07:40 index: SYS_DATA add ( /* key:15 */ 15, 0, 0, STRINGDECODE('CREATE CACHED TABLE PUBLIC.IDEAS(\n    ID BIGINT NOT NULL,\n    STATUS INTEGER,\n    NOTE VARCHAR(32768),\n    CATEGORY VARCHAR(256)\n)'))

For items it is:

Code :
09-13 20:07:40 index: SYS_DATA add ( /* key:44 */ 44, 0, 0, STRINGDECODE('CREATE CACHED TABLE PUBLIC.TAG(\n    ID BIGINT NOT NULL,\n    TYPE INTEGER NOT NULL,\n    CATEGORY VARCHAR(255),\n    NAME VARCHAR(255),\n    DESCRIPTION VARCHAR(255),\n    NOTES VARCHAR(255)\n)'))

So the field length for notes is 32.768, but for tags and items it's 255.

Does the H2 database engine field length depends on the operating system?

Hope, this helps you
Anton

I don't understand why the JDBC don't work. Here I use Mint 17, an Ubuntu 14.04 based distribution. What Java machine do you use? Here I have the Oracle Java, perhaps the Open JDK has a problem.

I'm at the office now and under Windows (I do not have it at home, so I can't test it there) I have the same problem. And it does not matter, if I use the zip-File and start it with java -jar or use the exe to install.

Java is Oracle Java 8, newest version, on Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04.

I want to try some things. Could you please upload the current source to sourceforge. The version there is 4.10.0 and the NetBeans project files are missing.

What i did:

Installed a new Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon 64bit
- default installation
- installed all updates
- default installed java is 'OpenJDK 1.7.0_79'
Downloaded newest oStorybook.zip und extracted to 'Downloads'.
Started oStorybook with 'java -jar oStorybook.jar'
oStorybook does not run with OpenJDK. Wrong version error.
Removed OpenJDK and installed Oracle Java JDK with tutorial on LinuxMint
- Java now is 'OracleJava 1.8.0_60'
Started oStorybook with 'java -jar oStorybook.jar'
Used all defaults.
Started a new project named 'Test'.
Clicked on 'Secondary Objects', then 'Item'.
Typed in name and long text.
Clicked on 'Add', the buttons caption changed to 'Update'.
In the list of the items, nothing happend.
An error message occurs in the command window.
The 'Item' is not saved.

I sent you a mail with a screenshot.

Hope this helps.

Maybe this is, what causes the error:

In Folder 'storybook\model\hbn\entity' in 'AbstractTag.hbm.xml' at property

Code : xhtml
column="name"
 and  property
Code : xhtml
column="notes"
 the parameter

Code : xhtml
length="32768"
 is missing.

So there possibly the default is used.

In file 'Idea.hbm.xml' and others

Code : xhtml
<property column="note" insert="true" length="32768" name="note" type="java.lang.String" update="true"/>
length is used.
